Introduction to Design
Thinking about design is a problem-solving process that emphasizes user needs and creative solutions. It can be harder than expected because it requires a shift in thinking from preconceived notions to a more open-ended approach. I am learning that the elements and principles of design are the building blocks that make a design visually appealing and functional. Learning them can be easier because they provide a framework. However, applying them creatively can be challenging.
Sometimes, the technology simply can’t achieve the desired design vision. I have a vision in my head of what I want the design to look like, but the end result is a much different version. Pixlr has been challenging for me. Cropping, cutting, layers, tones, effects and trying to get everything just right has been frustrating. Saying all that, the Newspaper Design Assignment was harder than I thought. I created it in word using a template. This template and I did not get along. Then I had to convert the document into a jpg. I finally found a very helpful video. I still hate the template though.
The satisfaction of coming up with a solution that is both creative and effective. The process of taking a concept from idea to finished product can be very rewarding. My ah hah moment was when I was working with Pixlr and finally got the hang of adding a new layer and manipulating it. I enjoyed making both the destination poster and the motivational poster. They were challenging, extremely fun to do and boosted my confidence level in this course.
I am still getting the hang of tagging things, embedding things and working with social media in general. I have gone my entire life without really using any of these things. I am realizing how much I have been missing out on. I am very glad I am taking this class. It is pushing me to learn new skills and expand my comfort zone with technologies I did not know existed.
